From 2002, the Federal government, by Action of Congress, enacted a controversial No Child Left Behind Act(NCLB) . This approach was intended to boost the primary and secondary school student’s understanding, primarily in the fields of English along with math. Although this is an admirable objective, the build of the system has hit a brick wall to bring the preferred gains. Most educators have laid the blame on the approach laid out within the No Child Left Behind plan. With its target squarely on English and math, scholars, teachers and administrators confront a task that imposes punishments if the targets are not met.
These punishments use the type of rescinded Federal financing, which produces a catch- 22 kind of problem. Even the funding which is appropriated has not been received by the states. This is typical procedure since the inception of No Child Left Behind. In 2002, nearly$ 4. 2 billion bucks which was appropriated in no way arrived at the states. In 2007, this funding gap grew to an amazing$ 14 billion dollars! To add to the financial woes of the school districts, states everywhere in the nation were experiencing funding shortfalls in revenues, due to the state of the general economy.
This key fact resulted in many states discovering it necessary to make budget cuts in several places, which includes, you guessed it, education! Although schools are required to administer normal tests in English as well as math, the tests protocol of No Child Left Behind does not stretch to other courses. Some schools were forced to drop additional subjects from their curriculums if they were to maintain the Federal money. This doesn’t seem like a healthy overhaul of our educational organization.
